Rules & Regulations

When you join the Silk Roads Summer Experience (the “Course”), you are expected to follow thefew simple rules outlined below.

[Please note: these rules and regulations apply equally to other courses organised by ArmirateEducation Limited. Changes, as necessary, may be notified to you and your parents before orduring the course.]

A. The Course

1. Punctuality and attendance
You must attend the induction briefing on the first day and arrive punctually for each class or session.

2. Participation in the course
You should take part in all lessons, activities, visits and excursions throughout the course – mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends as shown on your timetable.

3. Meals and mealtimes
You should also attend all breakfasts, lunches, dinners provided on the campus and off-site arranged by your leaders. Times for meals on campus are as follows: Breakfast 07:30 – 08:30; Lunch 12:30 – 13:30; Dinner 18:00 – 19:00.

B. Living on campus

1. You are sharing the campus with other students and some staff members so please be considerate to each other.

2. Use English or Mandarin Chinese during your time on the Course.

3. Please treat all buildings and facilities with care and respect. Check the rooms when you arrive and let us know if anything is not working. Equally, we may need to charge you for any damage you cause.

4. Please keep your room tidy and clean so that the cleaning staff can do their job properly.

5. Wear appropriate clothing for the activity which you are taking part in. If you are wearing inappropriate clothing, we will ask you to change this. You are not allowed to get any tattoos or piercings done during your time with us.

6. Keep noise to a minimum, especially after 22:00 when others will be sleeping. This also applies to telephone calls from family members who should call before 22:00 local time.

7. Only those of the same sex are allowed in each other's rooms. There are plenty of communal areas for you to socialise with those of the opposite sex.

8. At any time that you have friends in your room, you must keep your door propped open with your bin, so that our team know that you have others in your room.

9. You are responsible for your personal belongings and valuables. If you would like us to look after your valuables, you are welcome to leave them in our safe. If you lose something you may be able to claim on the insurance policy. [Please note: Armirate Education Limited accepts no liability if your money or valuables are lost or stolen.]

C. Legal Requirements

1. Internet Use
When using the internet facilities, you must abide by the IT rules set at the campus. You must not create, download, store or transmit unlawful material, or material that is indecent, offensive, defamatory, threatening, discriminatory or extremist. Armirate Education Limited reserves the right to block or monitor access to such material.

2. Cigarette smoking
You must not smoke cigarettes, including e-cigarettes, in the accommodation or on the campus. Both are illegal for your age group.

3. Alcohol and drugs
You must not buy or drink alcohol of any kind while on the course. Similarly, you must not buy or use drugs, other than prescription drugs agreed with your parents. If we suspect you of possessing alcohol or drugs, we reserve the right to search your room. If you have broken these rules, your parents will be informed and you will be sent home at their expense.

4. Fire Safety
You must respect the fire precautions in your rooms and on campus. If you block fire exits or cover smoke alarms, you will receive a heavy financial penalty. If the alarm rings, you must leave the building immediately by the closest fire route. Do not wait to collect your belongings.

5. Living in China
You must respect the laws of China at all times. You must not participate in any act or illegal activity that may bring you, Armirate Education Limited, or any partners or facilities into disrepute. Local guidance will be provided by your team leaders as necessary.

D. Daily Routines

1. Checking-in every day
Your team leaders are expected to check you in at certain times of each day: at mealtimes, during lessons, on visits and excursions, and at bedtimes. Remember that you are not allowed off the campus on your own at any time. [Please note: if you are absent at the check-in, team leaders will try to find you by asking your friends and calling your mobile. If all else fails, they may need to contact the local police.]

2. Lights out
It is important that you get enough sleep so that you are refreshed and ready for the next day. Our bed check-in is at 22:00, and we expect you to be getting ready for bed then. You shouldn’t be in another person’s room after 22:00 and lights out will be at 23:00.

3. Family Visits during the Course
The Course is a busy summer programme with many classes and activities, so visits from
parents/guardians/friends are not recommended. However, please notify us of any visit
beforehand via info@armirate.com and supply a current passport/driving licence to prove the
identity of any visitor on their arrival.

Please also note that, depending on COVID-19 restrictions in place, family and guardian visits during the Course may not be allowed in order to minimise your risk of infection or exposure to the virus.

4. At the end of the Course
You are expected to travel with other members of the group at the end of the course, unless your parents have made special, written arrangements with Armirate Education Limited. Either way, please leave your room tidy and in good order in preparation for the final roomcheck by your course leader.

5. Mobile phones and laptops
Mobile phones and other electrical equipment (including earphones and headphones) must not be used during any academic session or in any circumstances where phone usage would be inappropriate (for example, an activity or a guided tour on a trip) or when expressly requested by a member of our team.

6. Illness
If you are unwell, please let us know as soon as possible and follow any direction we give you. This might include missing lessons if we believe you are not well enough to attend. Our team members are trained in First Aid but we might send you to a doctor or to the hospital if we feel this is the best course of action. A member of the team will accompany you and help you.

7. Interactions between students and staff
The success of the course is based on the mutual respect between staff and students - both have responsibilities to listen to and co-operate with each other. Please ask for advice and support during the lessons and activities and on the campus whenever you need it. You can contact a member of staff at any time through email accounts/mobiles/emergency phone numbers. If you have an issue with any of our members of staff, please talk to another team member in the first instance. There is a complaints procedure which is included in our Terms & Conditions available on our website.

8. Your safety during the course

  • Emergency telephone:
Please bring a mobile phone to the Course and keep it with you at all times. A member of our team is available to help you at any time 24/7. If you need urgent help, contact us immediately, using the Emergency telephone number provided by Armirate Education Limited on the first day of your course. In some cases, the leader accompanying your school group will also be available. [In the case of a serious emergency, the number for the emergency services in China is 110. Report any calls to us immediately so that we know what is happening.]
  • Road Safety:
It is critically important that you take responsibility for your own road safety. Walk on the pavements and cross the road at official crossings, making sure you look both ways. Remember that drivers in China drive on the right-hand side of the road. Do not use a bicycle or e-scooter while you are on the Course.

E. Behaviour and Discipline

  • Any form of bullying, harassment or racism will not be tolerated. If you are being bullied, or witness bullying, please tell a staff member immediately.
  • Please refrain from showing inappropriate displays of affection.
  • Failure to behave appropriately, or to comply with the above rules and regulations, will result in a written warning. If the misconduct is repeated, or for incidents of a serious nature, parents/guardians and/or the student’s school will be contacted, and this may result in expulsion from the Course.
  • In the event of serious incidents of misbehaviour, such as fighting, discrimination or abuse of any kind, or the use of illegal substances, the student(s) concerned will not be allowed to continue the Course and their parents / guardians will be contacted for withdrawal from the Course. No portion of the Course fee will be refunded to a student who has been dismissed.
  • We reserve the right to send you home in accordance with our Terms & Conditions, or to ground you, if you fail to abide by these Rules & Regulations, or our other policies.
  • We will deal fairly with disciplinary matters.

By submitting your payment for the Course, you confirm that you acknowledge and accept the terms of Rules and Regulations.
