Description: A celebration of unity in diversity through the music and dance of different faith culture.  Performance by Silk Roads Ensemble plus music by acclaimed klezmer clarinettist Merlin Shepherd, Voice from the Coalshed Gospel Choir, West London Baha’i Choir, and Champa Shah classical Indian dance. Organized by Horsham Interfaith Forum (HIFF).

Nour Arts Festival – 2 October 2010 Leighton House Museum

Description: As part of the Nour Festival of Arts, Silk Roads is presenting Middle-Eastern dance, music,  arts and crafts, and storytelling in the fabulous ‘orientalist’ home built by Victorian painter Lord Leighton. Weaving workshops with Rezia Wahid MBE, tanoura dance from Shafeek Ibrahim,  storytelling with music performance by Silk Roads Ensemble,  henna handpainting led by Fathema Wahid.

Location: Chalkhill Community Centre, Chalkhill Rd, HA9 9FX (200 yards from Wembley Park tube)

Description: Learn to play the daf in the UK’s only Sufi daf classes. The sessions will introduce participants to the Sufi rhythms and styles of Turkish, Persian, and Arab Sufi practices. Suitable for 8 years upwards. Frame-drums available for learning and for sale at venue.

£5 each workshop

Travel News: On Wembley event days free parking is available for two hours in the local Asda car park which adjoins Chalkhill Community Centre (access to Asda from Forty Avenue opposite the town hall, park at the far end and walk down stairs to Chalkhill Road)

Lollibop – Children’s Festival 17/18 July

Description: Silk Roads is pleased as punch to be part of London’s first dedicated children’s festival. We’ll be rolling out some drumming and crafts workshops and maybe a little dance. Featuring such oddities as Miniscule of Sound (world’s smallest disco), Pimp My Pram (glitz up your baby buggy), and Babyoke (karaoke for babies)!

Silk Roads at Brent Respect 4th July

Title: Brent Respect

Description: Silk Roads own Sufi Drummers led by Khaled Hakim share the main stage with Arabian Dance Theatre and artistic director Shafeek Ibrahim. The Sufi Drummers are graduates from the daf workshops that have been running every Saturday.  Performance time 1.55pm.

Drummers will also perform at the Arena space for the Pucara CMS martial arts display at 4.15pm
